To the cross...

After Bible study tonight, I spent the drive home just pondering a burden that has been on my heart for a while now. I have poured my heart out to God over and over again about it, yet I feel stuck. I know that God hears me and I know that He is working even though I can't see it right now. I opened up my heart again to him tonight and tonight, He wispered these words of comfort right into my heart: "I have already carried this burden for you, I carried it all the way to the cross-just trust me". Wow. I am so amazed at how powerful the still small voice of God can be. It's those moments that I treasure most about my relationship with God. Where I know He is near to me and I can rest assured that He is working out His will for me. Its when you feel and know that those few words He speaks to you are just as powerful as if He picked up a mountain and moved it. It reminds me that while we sit around waiting for a huge display of God's miraculous ability, that sometimes we miss the way He works is small and mysterious ways.

Goodnight,

Angele

July is Flyin' By...

Time is going by so fast and things have been so busy I can hardly keep up. July has been a fun month. One of my best friends, Ruth, (who lives in Colorado) had been home visiting her family for a few weeks in Grand Bay, AL (close to Mobile, AL). I wanted to go see her but things were so busy. I'd had been out of town some and I was afraid I wasn't going to get to see her while she was so close to home and before she headed back to Colorado. Her grandmother was turning 80 and they were throwing her a surprise birthday party the last weekend that Ruth was in town and I was determined I was going to make it down and spend time with her, her family, and go to the party. I headed down one Friday afternoon and that evening Ruth and I met some of our other friends, Erin and Jenny for dinner. We were all such good friends in high school and it is always so special to see these girls. We do not keep in touch nearly as much as we should. But, when we see or talk to each other it feels like we have hardly skipped a beat. I love all of them! Jenny and Erin both have little boys that are so cute! It is fun to see our lives changing in so many ways. It was a great weekend, but it made me sad to think I do not get to see these people as often as I'd like. Here are a few pics:

Also, in July, Mom and I went to a birthday party for one of her very good friends. The party was a Shoal Creek Country Club. My dad was not able to go with her because he had been having problems with his back, so I went along with her so she wouldn't have to go by herself. It was a great time of visiting with great friends and we had a great meal too! :)

Hope you all have a great week!

Let Freedom Ring...

I spent a few days in Clearwater, Fl recently visiting some family for the 4th of July holiday. The first two days there were rainy and overcast so we did not really do that much. Just rested. The next three days were pretty and sunny, so we spent plenty of time outside, in the pool, at the beach, and eating of course! As always, it was good to spend time with family. Family is so important to me and I think it is one of God's greatest blessings. One of my cousins and his wife were able to come down as well as another cousin. It was a pretty laid back trip and just what I needed. Here are a few pics:

Whew...time flies!

The beginning of 2011 has flown by so fast! It has been busy and full of a lot of both fun and sad memories. In January, I got to go to one of my high school best friends' wedding and we went on a family trip to Tennessee. I blogged about both of those already. Here is a run-down of whats been going on since then:

February:

I flew out to Colorado to see my best friend,Ruth. Ruth and I have been friends since 6th grade and also lived together through college. Another friend of ours who lives in Mobile, flew into Colorado at the same time and we had a blast catching up and just spending time together. One of Ruth and I's other college roommates also lives in Colorado and we got to meet up with her one night for dinner and a night out. We drove up to Breckenridge for a night and went snowboarding and snow mobiling. It was sooo much fun! It was hard to come home. Here are a few pics from that trip.

March/April:

My grandmother had not been doing well off and on since the beginning of the year. She had a lengthy hospital stay in March and went home to be with the Lord April 30th. It was a very sad time for our family but what peace we have in knowing she is home with the Lord where she longed to be. I know she is loving heaven and seeing all her friends and familiy there waiting for her.

May:

In May, we celebrated my birthday and mother's day. It is always so special because my birthday is right around mother's day and every few years actually falls on that day. I love my mom and she is my best friend. I love sharing that time with her, especially this year since it was so close to my grandmother passing away. I also went to Mexico with some girl friends. It was a much needed girls get away and we had such a fun time. At the end of May, we had a memorial service for my grandmother. All of our family was able to gather on the Mississippi Coast. We had a great time being together, celebrating the life of my grandmother and sharing memories. The evening of the memorial service a great family friend invited us over to his gorgeous home for a shrimp and crab boil! Yum-Yum! We had a blast stuffing our faces and again, just being together. I can't believe all ten of us grandchildren were able to be together in one place. It doesn't happen often but is so special when it does. I know my grandmother and grandfather were smiling down on us, just knowing we were together. That was always what it was about to them, family and being together. I have such a special family, and I thank God all the time that he blessed me with them. We are crazy but we have a lot of fun together. Here are some pictures from Mexico and Mississippi time with family.

Kelly's Korner (kellyskornerblog.com) is a blog that I have been following for quite some time. I love it because she is just so completely honest about life, especially her life as a mom. I am not a mom but I love reading her blog and she post some other pretty good stuff that isn't always mom related. I love her "Show us your life" post. Each week she features a different topic like, "Show us what you make", "Show us where your favorite vacation spot is" etc. She often does a show us your life singles. I'm not a fan of online dating, it just kind of weirds me out, but it has been very neat to see how this has worked. She has done this particular show us your life several times and has had several couples come together and I think one couple that met through it has even gotten married or is getting married. Kind of neat.

As I said, "online" dating and meeting someone over the internet still kind of freaks me out. But, who's to say it can't happend. God works in mysterious ways. I am looking forward to her post where she features these couples that have met throught her Show us your life, singles post. Follow her blog, it is so worth reading everyday. I admire her for being completely herself. I do not know her personally, but feel like if I met her, she would be exactly how she comes across in her blog, very genuine.

Look for a post updating what has been going on in the crazy life of mine. It has been so busy the last 6 months that it will take a long post to catch up. So, just warning ya ahead of time!

And just because I love pictures...here is a preview of what is to come on the blog:

I've Stopped Reading My Bible...

...for a little bit anyways. I've been trying to do better about reading my Bible. I can honestly say that I have never been consistant with reading my Bible and it is ashaming (is that a word?). A few months ago, I decided that I was going to read the Bible all the way through. It's something I always said that I would do and again, I've haven't ever done it (*ashamed*...again). I looked up a "Bible Reading Plan" online and choose a chronological reading plan. I started with the "plan" and soon felt like I was back in graduate school, reading assigned chapters in Psychopathology. I found I was reading the "assigned" chapters the plan suggested for each day, and checking them off.

I want a deep hunger for the word. I want to be passionate about it. I want to memorize more scripture. I want to read several chapters each day and hear God. So, I'm going to pray for that. I want God to change the way I approach his word. I love it, but I need a deeper love.

Weekend Re-Cap

This weekend was supposed to look a little like this....

Instead, I received this several hours before the concert was supposed to start:

Bummer...We have been looking forward to this for a while now. Thursday, this past week, we were hit with a little "wintery mix". It started sleeting, then snowing, and in a matter of about an hour or so things began to get icy. I got things finished up at work as soon as I could and was out of there. It was crazy around town and took me over 2 hours to get home!! The first hour was spent just trying to get out of the area I work in. I swear I didn't go a whole 5 miles that first hour. Once I finally got out of the traffic around work, I was able to take some back rounds home. They were a little conjested but not as bad as the highways and main roads in town. After finally getting home, I took a bathroom break, loaded up my car and drove another 4 hours down to Mississippi.

Apparently, Rascal Flatts felt my pain. They had played a concert in Austin, TX Thursday night and were unable to make it to New Orleans for the concert I was supposed to go to on Friday night because of "icy road" conditions. I was bummed but all things happen for a reason so it will be okay. They are supposed to announce a reschedule date and hopefully we'll still be able to go, if not - we can get a refund.

I've been really trying to do well with working out (alot more than normal) and really watching what I've been eating. I've done good so far and have lost a few more pounds but it all when to you know where this weekend. HA! I mean, how can you be in New Orleans & the Coast of Mississippi and think about eating "healthy"...I mean come on. Thanks to these few things: Ralph & Kacoo's, Cafe Du Monde, & Pat O' Briens;

I think I've found those few pounds I lost. HA! But, I'm back home now and it's time to get busy and back into the routine of gym(cardio & weights), Zumba, and 30-day shred and send them back on their way!

Going to the chapel...

...for one of my friends' wedding! This weekend my sister and I loaded up and headed to Mississippi for Cassie's wedding! Yeah!!, we were so excited for her. I have known Cassie since 6th grade and we were such great friends in middle school, and especially in high school. She is such a sweet girl and has a great family. We have so many great memories together so it was great to be able to share this special time with her. The wedding was beautiful. There was something that they did though that was so sweet and humbling to me. During the wedding service they offerred communion. Communion in itself is something so special, but this was extra special because the bride and groom actually served communion to the guest. It was hard to hold back tears as I approached the front of the church to receive communion from a long time friend and fellow sister in Christ. It was such a sweet moment that I'll treasure forever! Here are a few pictures from the night:

It has been many years since I have seen Cassie but when we got to catch up for a few minutes it seemed like no time had gone by at all. I miss those kind of friendships. Cassie and her husband do not live far from some of my family in Mississippi so we promised to do a better job of keeping in touch and hopefully seeing one another when I get down there to visit family. How fun would that be! I wish Cassie and her husband Brian only the best that life can offer and I pray that God blesses them with a wonderful marriage.

Family Vacation

Those two words can mean so much! lol. This past Thursday morning we headed out to Tennesse. The weather forcast for the 10 days prior to us leaving called for temperatures into the 50s. We were bringing family on this trip that had never seen "real" snow and since last year when we were there we saw snow, we prayed and asked God to please send some snow for us. Well...there's two, ok maybe three, things I know for sure. 1) God answers prayers, 2) God provides above and beyond what we could ever ask or imagine and 3) Be careful what you pray for. haha.

The few days leading up to the trip the forcast changed - the expected temperatures fell and I saw a few snow flakes on my iPhone weather app. :) I honestly didn't expect much snow because I knew the warmer weather had melted most of what snow was already in Tennessee. We left Alabama expecting to see atleast a "light dusting" or maybe a few inches of snow fall while we were there. We arrived in Tennesse and there was barely even any snow. You had to look hard to find some "patches" of snow in the shady parts where the sun was unable reach and melt it. We continued to drive, checked in at the cabin rental office and began our trek some 2000+ feet up the mountain to our cabin - in our 2 wheel drive vehicles. ha. We had rented this particular cabin before and had no trouble getting to it in our vehicles even in snow. We fell in love with it and we were headed back there. As we progressed up the mountain, we saw a little more snow, nothing like we had seen last year though. But, we were thankful to be there anyway. We unpacked the car, played around a bit and settled in for the evening. Before we left, my mom and I had "planned a menu". We were going to eat out some and eat in some. We cooked a few things ahead of time and brought some things to make to save some expense and so we could be in and enjoy the cabin more this year. (last year, we spent so much time out and about we were rarely at the cabin to enjoy it). We watched the news and knew that snow was headed our way! As we wound down and prepared for bed, the snow began to fall. I woke up some point in the middle of the night, looked out the window and saw some snow but was like, hmm-that's not as much as I thought there would be following what we heard on the news. When we woke up the first morning we saw this on the back deck:

No big deal. They had plowed and salted the roads going down the mountain and we were able to get down.

We went to eat at the Pancake Pantry:

then headed to Ober Gatlinburg that day.

It continued to snow and it came down harder and harder and did not stop. We did everything we wanted to do at Ober but knew we needed to quickly leave because the weather just kept getting worse. See:

We knew/heard that alot of snow had accumulated on the mountain and not only was there snow but ice. Because of what we had been told by others and the fact that the snow was not going to stop we knew our 2 wheel drives would probably not be able to make it up the mountain to our cabin after leaving Ober and if we did we knew we wouldn't be able to get down in them. So, after much debate - we rented 2 4wheel drives and left our vehicles at the rental place. We paid for the cabin and wanted snow so we were going to make the best of it. Thank goodness we made that decision. As we headed up the mountain in the 4 wheel drives it had already begun to ice over. We would have never made it safely in our own cars. The snow continued to fall and never let up. Wow, does God have a sense of humor. We knew we were in for the night and probably wouldn't get out at all the next day (Saturday). We woke up Saturday morning to this:

At least 2 feet in most areas around our cabin. This was our "way out" down the mountain...no way were we getting down that! So we staying in, played alot in the snow, and played card/board games inside.

The snow plow did not even come up to the mountain at all on Saturday until late that evening. We talked to the guy plowing the snow and he said that he felt like we had a small window of opportunity to get down the mountain on Sunday and if we didn't/weren't able to get out we would probably be stuck there for another 3-4 days atleast. It was still snowing at that point on Saturday night. It was supposed to let up throughout the rest of the night and Sunday morning and begin again Sunday night for the next several days. He was going to be back early the next morning to plow and salt and he said that we should leave about an hour after he plows so the salt would have time to work its magic on the ice. We were prepared to be stuck but were hopeful that we would be able to get down. We were able to get out Sunday morning but were headed into terrible winter weather in Alabama...really - this was nuts. We drove as fast as we could out of Tennessee to try and arrive home in Alabama before the ice storm came though there. We made it to Gadsden and we were a-o.k. But when we hit Trussville we knew we had not beaten the weather home. It was sleeting and the roads were already iced over. We had to drive about 20 miles an hour from Trussville to home and saw alot of wrecks along the way. Thank goodness we made it home safe. Vacations are fun but sometimes there is just "no place like home". I thank God for the fun we had and that we were safe through it all. Here is a picture of part of the inside of our cabin and another that shows some more of how much snow we got.

If you are ever looking to rent a cabin in Gatlinburg, TN go to www.cabinsusagatlinburg.com. We have rented from them three times now and have been pleased everytime. They are also very nice. If you're a friend on Facebook, be checking there for more pictures from the trip.

Now I'm off to watch the rest of the BCS National Championship Game. As a graduate and long time Tide fan...Roll Tigers Roll. Let's keep it in the state!

Much love to all,

Angele

"Why Not Me"

I don't want to be a girl who says, "Why me". Rather I want to be someone who says, "Why Not Me". Good, bad, indifferent - my life is in the hands of my Creator, a sovereign God who created me and made a perfect plan for my life. So, come what may - why not me.

I think how you respond to things speaks more to people than any words you could ever offer. Our actions and how we handle "life" speaks volumes and sometimes; that could be life changing for other people. I hope I always have a "why not me" attitude.

In 2011...

I don't tend to make "New Year's Resolutions". I do, however, think it is important to set goals in life. This year, I dont want to focus so much on "goals" that I would like to have for my life...1) Because I'm afraid I'll become too focused on them and I don't want to miss out on what God wants for my life right now and 2) I dont want to be disappointed if a goal is not reached. So, for 2011, I'm going to say that these are my top hopes & wishes:

1) To fall deeper in love with Jesus and grow more in my relationship with Him.
2) To pick up my Iphone4 and laptop less and spend more time in prayer and picking up my Bible more.
3) To not only read scripture by to dwell on it, to memorize it, to understand what God was/is trying to say through it.
4) To be still more often.
5) To recognize and serve others more, to be more attentive to the needs of others.
6) Trust God more for what I really need and not what I want.
7) Spend more time with my family.
8) I hope I do a better job and keeping up with friends who live away on a more regular basis.
9) To buy those really cute pair of shoes even though I feel like I shouldn't spend the $. ;)
10) Travel when/as much as I can-especially if it is with family or to see family.
